How many lumens is the Lepro camping lantern?

Lepro lists up to 1000 lumens from a 10 watt LED Lepro. That full figure is the combined mode, which mixes 700 lumens of cool white with 300 lumens of warm white. A long press on the button slides the output down from there, with no fixed steps.

What batteries does the Lepro camping lantern take?

It takes 3 D alkaline batteries, and Lepro does not include them Lepro. Lepro lists the lantern at 4.5 volts, which is 3 cells of 1.5 volts in a row, by our maths. Lepro lists the lantern as not rechargeable, so there is no charging port and no built in cell.

Lepro 1000LM, 1500LM or rechargeable 1000LM?

Lepro sells a brighter 1500 lumen version on the same 3 D batteries Lepro. It also sells a rechargeable 1000 lumen version with two 2200 mAh lithium cells Lepro. The 1500 lumen page lists 16 hours in its spec table, and 12 hours at full brightness in its feature text.

Good to know before you buy

  • Lepro ships this lantern with no batteries in the box. Buy 3 D alkaline cells at the same time, so the lantern works on the first night Lepro.
  • Lepro lists the lantern as not rechargeable. Plan on fresh alkaline D cells rather than a cable, or take the rechargeable version instead Lepro Lepro.
  • IPX4 covers splashing water from all angles. Lepro lists that rating and no submersion rating, so use it in rain and keep it out of the lake Lepro.
  • The 12 hour figure belongs to the full 1000 lumen setting. Lepro lists 18 hours on cool white and 25 hours on warm white from the same set of cells Lepro.

How the Lepro LED Camping Lantern compares

Lepro LED camping lantern vs Streamlight The Siege

Both lanterns run on 3 D alkaline cells, and Lepro lists twice the lumens at the top setting. Streamlight lists longer run times and a higher water rating, at 540 lumens with the cover removed and IPX7 to 1 m Streamlight.

Lepro LED camping lantern vs Energizer WeatheReady lantern

Lumens, the frosted cover and the 360 degree beam

Lepro lists 1000 lumens over a 360 degree beam, which it calls glare-free lighting Lepro. A milky white frosted cover sits over the LED and spreads the light outward in every direction. Lepro describes that cover as impact resistant, and as removable.

The 1000 lumen figure is the combined mode. Lepro reaches it by running 700 lumens of cool white and 300 lumens of warm white together, which gives a natural white light. A long press on the button then dims the output with no fixed steps.

Battery life and D batteries

Lepro lists three run times from one set of 3 D alkaline cells Lepro:

  • 12 hours in the high output mode, at 1000 lumens
  • 18 hours on cool white, at 700 lumens
  • 25 hours on warm white, at 300 lumens

Warm white runs about twice as long as full brightness, by our maths, for 300 lumens instead of 1000. For a two night trip that lights a camp table, the warm setting is the one that lasts.

Note

Lepro lists the lantern as not rechargeable, and powers it from 3 D alkaline batteries that are not in the box Lepro.

Is the Lepro camping lantern waterproof?

No, Lepro lists IPX4 water resistance, not a submersion rating. Lepro describes IPX4 as protected against splashing water from all angles Lepro. That covers rain on a tent porch and spray off a wet trail, so keep the lantern out of standing water.

Tip

Hang the lantern from the metal handle on top, or from the hook on the bottom, to keep it clear of puddles Lepro.

The 4 light modes, and when to use each

Lepro fits 4 modes and switches between them with a short press on the button Lepro:

  1. Daylight white, listed at 6000 K and 700 lumens, for cooking and jobs.
  2. Warm white, listed at 3100 K and 300 lumens, for sitting out and the longest run time.
  3. Full brightness, the combined natural white mode at 1000 lumens.
  4. Flashing, listed at 5000 K, which Lepro calls a high-visibility mode for emergencies.

A long press on the same button runs the stepless dimming function, so you can set any level up to 1000 lumens. Lepro calls the control a touch switch.

How to set up and use it

Before you start

Have 3 D alkaline batteries ready. Lepro lists the lantern as not rechargeable and ships it with no cells Lepro.

  1. Fit 3 D alkaline batteries in the lantern.
  2. Press the button to switch the lantern on.
  3. Short press the button to step through the 4 modes: daylight white, warm white, full brightness, flashing.
  4. Long press the button to dim the light, or to bring it back up to 1000 lumens.
  5. Lift the frosted cover off when you want the bare LED, then press it back on.
  6. Carry it by the metal handle on top, or hang it from the hook on the bottom.

Care and quick fixes

If the lantern gives no light

  1. Check that all 3 cells are D size alkaline batteries.
  2. Fit a fresh set, because Lepro lists the lantern as not rechargeable and gives it no charging port.
  3. Short press the button again, in case the lantern sat in the flashing mode Lepro.

Where to store it between trips

Lepro's warranty excludes damage from temperatures below -40 C or above 60 C, and from corrosive environments Lepro. A cupboard indoors keeps the lantern inside those limits. Keep it away from cleaning agents, which the same policy lists as a cause of finish damage.

How to claim on the warranty

  1. Find your proof of purchase and the date.
  2. Email Lepro at the address on its warranty page to ask for a Returned Merchandise Authorization number.
  3. Send the product back once Lepro issues that number Lepro.

Lepro states a warranty of at least 1 year from the date of purchase, with the exact term set on each product page. The product page for this lantern lists a 1 to 5 year range that varies by product.
