Good to know before you buy
!
The ePX3500 takes cold tap water only. The manual lists the water temperature as cold water only, and says hot water damages the pump seals manual. Run it from a garden tap, not from a hot feed.
!
Your water supply must stay under 150 PSI. The manual says never to use a supply that exceeds 150 PSI maximum manual. It also says the water must come from a water main, not a lake, pool or pond.
!
Westinghouse does not recommend an extension cord. The cord on the unit is 35 ft, so plan the outlet around that Westinghouse. If a cord is unavoidable, the manual asks for 16 AWG or heavier at 50 ft or less manual.
!
Keep it above 40 degrees Fahrenheit in storage. Water left inside can freeze and crack the high-pressure pump manual. Store it indoors in a heated space, and use a pump saver, which is not included.
!
The 3 year warranty covers parts for 3 years and labor for 1 year. Westinghouse covers repair expense, parts and labor, for 1 year from purchase, and replacement parts only for 3 years warranty. It applies to personal use by the original buyer, so register the unit and keep the receipt.
How the ePX3500 compares
ePX3500 vs Simpson Clean Machine
The ePX3500 lists more pressure, five tips and a 19 pound body. The Simpson Clean Machine CM60976 lists 2300 PSI, a brushless induction motor, 12 inch never-flat tires and 40 pounds Simpson.
Move up to the WPX3400e for more pressure and a bigger soap tank, in a larger cart-style frame. Westinghouse lists it at 3400 max PSI, 2 max GPM and 42.7 pounds Westinghouse.
Westinghouse lists decks, driveways, garage floors, stairs, fencing, patio furniture and vehicles Westinghouse. It says the washer blasts away mildew, grease, oil, tar, mud and rust.
The manual sets the limits by nozzle rather than by surface. Cold tap water, a maximum 150 PSI supply and a mains water feed are the conditions for every job manual.
Which nozzle tip should I use?
The manual gives a job for each of the five tips manual.
Tip
What the manual says
0 degrees
High pressure. Concrete, tough stains, stripping paint. Use with caution.
Turbo
High pressure. A rotating 0 degree pattern that covers large areas faster.
15 degrees
Moderate pressure. Safe on brick and paved patios.
25 degrees
Moderate pressure. Safe on brick and paved patios.
Soap
Low pressure. Safe for cars, windows and decks.
Before you start
Always stop the washer, release the pressure in the spray gun and lock the trigger before you change a nozzle manual.
To protect a surface, the manual says to pick the right nozzle, change the angle of the stream, or move the nozzle further away manual. Test a small hidden area first.
Does the ePX3500 have a GFCI plug?
Yes, the ePX3500 has a Class A ground fault circuit interrupter built into the plug of the power cord manual. The manual explains that this guards against current flowing through a person standing on a wet surface.
The unit is also double insulated, so the manual says it has no grounding means and none should be added manual.
Tip
Test the GFCI monthly: press TEST and listen for a click, then press RESET and check the LED comes on manual.
Is the ePX3500 easy to move and store?
Westinghouse builds the ePX3500 around four quick-lock wheels with a 360 degree steering design and a low center of gravity, for anti-tipping agility Westinghouse. It says the washer follows you from driveway to grass in one smooth motion.
For storage, the body carries the gear. The manual lists a cord retainer on one side, a hose retainer on the back, two gun holsters and a nozzle storage area manual. There is also a handle for carrying the unit.
How to set up and use it
Assemble it
The ePX3500 arrives in parts. The box holds a spray gun, a lance, upper and lower gun holsters, a hose retainer, four nozzles, a turbo nozzle, a high pressure hose and four casters manual.
Hold the unit at a slight angle and push the four casters into the slots at the base until they snap in.
Return the unit upright, then slide the upper and lower gun holsters into their slots.
Fit the hose retainer on the back, and the cord retainer on the side opposite the holsters.
Push the lance into the spray gun and turn it clockwise. Do not overtighten.
Pull the collar on the high pressure hose back, push the fitting into the gun, then screw the collar on.
Connect the water and power
Turn the faucet fully off, then uncoil the garden hose and flush it for a few seconds.
Check the screen inside the water inlet for damage or clogs. Never connect a garden hose without the screen.
Insert the garden hose into the water inlet and tighten the collar.
Connect the high pressure hose to the threaded outlet on the washer and tighten the collar.
Unwind the power cord fully and plug it into a 120 volt outlet manual.
Start and stop it
Turn the water supply on before you switch the washer on.
Hold the gun with both hands and point the lance in a safe direction.
Release the safety lock and squeeze the trigger until the water runs steady, then lock it again.
Push the START/STOP button once. The unit runs for a moment and shuts off, which is the auto-start feature.
Push START/STOP again to stop it, then squeeze the trigger to release the pressure left in the system manual.
How to use soap with the ePX3500
The ePX3500 applies detergent under low pressure through the soap nozzle only manual.
Stop the washer, turn the faucet off, and pull the trigger to release the pressure.
Fit the soap nozzle.
Fill the 20 oz tank with a pressure washer detergent, mixed as its maker directs.
Turn the water on, start the washer, and squeeze the trigger until soap shows in the stream.
Spray a dry surface, starting at the bottom and working up in a side-to-side motion.
Afterwards, empty the tank, refill it with clean water, and spray it through to flush the system.
Use detergents made for pressure washers, with the consistency of water manual. Thick, gel-like detergents clog the washer and can damage it.
Care and quick fixes from the manual
How to clean the nozzles
Stop the washer and turn the faucet completely off.
Release the pressure in the spray gun and unplug the washer.
Take the nozzle off the lance.
Clear debris from inside it with a nozzle cleaning tool or a fine needle.
Back flush water through the nozzle with a garden hose, then refit it manual.
How to clean the water inlet screen
The screens inside the garden hose adapter need cleaning from time to time manual. Remove them, rinse them with clean water, and put them back in the inlet.
Never clean the washer itself with a garden hose, because water can damage the electrical parts. Use a soft brush and a damp cloth, and low pressure air of no more than 25 psi on the vents.
If the ePX3500 will not turn on
Check that the cord is plugged into a grounded 120 volt outlet.
Pull the trigger to release water pressure held in the hose.
Press the RESET button on the power cord, in case the GFCI tripped.
If it still will not start, call Westinghouse customer service on 1-855-944-3571 manual.
If it runs but no water comes out
The manual lists three causes: an improper water source, a clogged nozzle, or a defective spray lance manual. Connect the washer to a water main, clean the nozzle, and replace the lance if neither fixes it.
If it starts for 2 seconds, then stops
That is the auto-start feature working as designed manual. The motor runs for 1 to 2 seconds to prime the pump, then shuts off until you squeeze the trigger.
Squeezing the trigger rapidly can make the auto-start feature miss a cycle. Use slow, deliberate pulls.
How to store it
Release the pressure in the gun, unplug the washer, and wrap the cord on the cord retainer.
Remove the garden hose, then tilt the unit to drain water from the inlet.
Take off the nozzles and put them in the nozzle storage area.
Disconnect the high pressure hose and wrap it on the hose retainer.
Split the gun and lance, and put them in the holsters.
Store it dry and covered, away from extreme heat and cold manual.
