Does the Dewalt inflator come with a battery?

No, DEWALT sells the DCC020IB as a tool only DEWALT. The box holds the inflator, the 12V DC cord and three nozzles. You can run it from a car socket on day one.

What battery does the Dewalt inflator use?

It takes a DEWALT 20V MAX or 60V MAX FLEXVOLT pack manual. With a FLEXVOLT pack the manual asks you to keep the inflator flat with the screen facing up.

How heavy is the Dewalt inflator?

DEWALT lists the assembled weight as 6.39 lbs DEWALT. The body is 12.97 in long and 5.5 in high, so it sits in a trunk or on a shelf.

Who the DEWALT DCC020IB is for

Good fit if

    Good fit if:

    • You own DEWALT 20V MAX batteries
    • You top up car and truck tires
    • You fill air beds and rafts
    • You work away from a power outlet
    • You want the pump to stop itself

    Pick another model if:

Good to know before you buy

    • DEWALT ships the DCC020IB as a tool only. The battery, the charger and the AC power supply come separately DEWALT. Add a 20V MAX pack, or start with the 12V DC cord in the box.
    • High volume mode does not shut off at a set pressure. The manual states this for the big hose manual. Stay with an air bed as it fills, then press the start and pause button to stop.
    • Above 100 psi the maximum run time is 10 minutes. DEWALT sets that limit in the manual manual. Fill one high pressure tire, then let the pump rest before the next one.
    • Your vehicle socket must be rated for at least 10A. The manual gives that figure for the 12V DC cord manual. Check the socket fuse in your car handbook first.
    • Settings clear when you switch the power off. You then set the target pressure again manual. DEWALT calls this a safety feature against over inflation.
    Before you start

DEWALT warns you to keep the unit in sight while it runs. Over inflation can cause injury and damage.

    How the DEWALT DCC020IB compares

Dewalt inflator vs Milwaukee tire inflator

The DEWALT takes three power sources and adds a high volume hose for air beds. Milwaukee rates the M18 2848-20 for 150 psi max, with a 36 in hose and four saved pressures.

    Dewalt inflator vs Ryobi inflator

Both tools reach 160 psi and both deflate. RYOBI builds the PCL031B around 18V ONE+ batteries, and RYOBI publishes air flow figures for it.

    How the automatic shut-off works

You set a target pressure, and the inflator turns itself off when the item reaches it. DEWALT puts the control on a pressure adjustment knob next to the digital gauge DEWALT. The manual gives the order: rotate the knob, press start, and the unit stops at the preset value manual.

The shut-off belongs to high pressure mode. High volume mode has no such feature, so the big hose runs until you stop it.

    Note

The manual says the reading may drop a little a few seconds after the pump stops. That is normal.

Power: battery, car socket or wall

The DCC020IB runs on a 20V MAX battery, a 12V DC vehicle socket, or 110V AC from the wall DEWALT. The 12V DC cord lives in the storage compartment on the side.

For wall power you add the N557514 external power supply, which DEWALT lists as an optional accessory manual. Its cord plugs into the external power connector on the side of the unit.

One point worth knowing: the inflator does not charge batteries manual. A flat pack goes in the charger as normal.

Air beds, rafts and pool floats

The high volume hose is built for objects that hold a lot of air. DEWALT names air mattresses, rafts and pool floats manual. It comes fitted with a standard tapered nozzle.

To empty the same item, you move the high volume hose to the inlet and deflation port. The steps are the same as inflation, with the hose on the other port manual.

    Tip

Many air mattresses hold an internal flap that blocks air. Push the nozzle firmly into the valve to move that flap aside.

    Is the Dewalt inflator waterproof?

No, DEWALT tells you not to use it in wet conditions manual. The same line rules out use near flammable liquids or gases.

Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and from extremes of heat and cold manual.

Can it read pressure like a gauge?

Yes, the display shows the pressure of whatever the high pressure hose is attached to. The manual lists three steps: connect the hose, press the power switch, and read the gauge display manual.

DEWALT still asks you to check every tire with an ANSI certified tire pressure gauge after each use manual. Do that before you drive the vehicle.

How to set up and use it

These steps follow the high pressure section of the manual manual.

    1. Choose your power. Slide in a 20V MAX or 60V MAX FLEXVOLT pack. You can instead plug the 12V DC cord into the vehicle socket, or connect the AC power supply.
    2. Unwrap the high pressure hose from its storage channel on the side of the unit.
    3. Fit the nozzle you need. The threaded chuck goes on a tire valve, and the needle or Presta adapter handles balls and bike tires.
    4. Press power. The inflator starts in high pressure mode, and the gauge shows pressure in this mode.
    5. Rotate the pressure knob to your target pressure.
    6. Press start/pause to begin. Press it again at any time to stop.
    7. Wait. The unit turns itself off when the item reaches the value you set.
    8. Press light for the LED on the handle when you work in the dark.

Care and quick fixes from the manual

    How to clean it

Blow dirt and dust out of all air vents with clean, dry air at least once a week. Wear ANSI Z87.1 approved eye protection while you do it manual. Wipe the body with a cloth dampened with water and mild soap.

Keep solvents and harsh chemicals away from the plastic parts. Never let liquid get inside the tool manual.

How to change the pressure units

Hold the inflation mode switch and the LED light switch together, then rotate the pressure adjustment knob manual. The inflator must be in high pressure mode for the gauge to read.

How to set it up for high ground

DEWALT recommends a pressure calibration above 5000 ft, or 1524 m manual.

    1. Switch the inflator off, with power connected and nothing on the high pressure hose.
    2. Press and hold the light switch, then press and release power.
    3. Keep holding light for 5 seconds.
    4. Wait for the display to flash and show "0.0".

The unit returns to sea level calibration every time you switch it on manual.

If it will not turn on

Check the battery, every connection, and the fuse in the 12V DC vehicle connector manual. A blank screen after two minutes of rest is the sleep mode. A press of the power switch wakes it.

    What the error codes mean

The display shows a code when something stops it. This table repeats DEWALT's own chart manual.

Code Meaning What DEWALT says to do
LoP Vehicle or external power supply voltage too low or too high Start the vehicle engine to raise voltage, or replace the power supply
bLo Battery discharged Charge or replace the battery
bAt Battery temperature too low or too high Let the battery rest and return to room temperature
Er S Pressure sensor fault Contact a DEWALT authorized service center
OL Pump current too high Check the hose and connections for restrictions
OP Pressure exceeded 163 psi Check the hose and connections for restrictions

    Dewalt inflator FAQ

    How accurate is the gauge?

DEWALT does not publish an accuracy figure for the DCC020IB. The manual asks you to check tire pressure with an ANSI certified gauge after each use manual.

Can I use it on a bike tire?

Yes, a Presta valve adapter comes in the box, and it fits the high pressure hose DEWALT. Check the pressure rating printed on your tire first.

Why does the screen go dark after a few minutes?

The display stays on for about two minutes when the pump is idle, then sleeps manual. A press of the power switch brings it back.

Where do the hoses and nozzles live?

Both hoses wrap into storage channels on the sides and sit in clips. The three nozzles snap into their own clips beside them manual. The 12V DC connector stores inside the side compartment.

    What is the warranty?

DEWALT lists a 3 year limited warranty, 1 year free service and a 90 day satisfaction guarantee DEWALT. See today's price with the link above.
